This free event for clinicians and scientitsts working on dementia related research is jointly organised by NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre and ARUK Oxford Local Network.

There will be a day of talks celebrating the exciting research in the region including updates on some of the exciting big dementia research initiatives such as the ARUK Oxford Drug Discovery Institute, Dementia Platform UK, the NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre and the Oxford Momentum Award.

OPDC's Ludovica Griffanti is taking part in this Pint of science event where we will talk about Imaging the brain, a window on ageing and dementia. She will be talking about her current research which focuses on using advanced MRI analysis to understand risk for Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.

Commotio will sing a World Premiere Carol by choral composer Bob Chilcott and dedicated to our branch.

Readers will include Ian Hislop, Rory Bremner and Paul Mayhew Archer. Proceeds to Parkinson's UK Oxford Branch.

Concert at the Sheldonian Theatre, featuring Daniel Harding

World renowned Daniel Harding will conduct the Oxford University Orchestra.  

Programme: Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, soloist Carolin Widmann, and Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique.  

Tickets will go on sale September through Oxford University Orchestra. 

This is Daniel Harding's return to his home town. Since he is in such demand as a conductor, it has taken four years to fix this concert.  Daniel joined the National Youth Orchestra at 13. At 17 he was mentored by Sir Simon Rattle. When he was 19, he went to Cambridge for one year, then left to become Claudio Abbado's assistant at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He first conducted the Berlin Phil when he was 21. His rise to becoming an international conductor continues.  This will be Daniel's second charity concert with the Oxford University Orchestra. 

Proceeds will be shared between Parkinson's UK Oxford Branch and The St Peter's Church Wolvercote Organ Fund.

Dorchester Abbey Concert

Dorchester Abbey Concert, Saturday 14th May - 7.30pm.

The Oxford and District Branch of Parkinson's UK are organising a concert on Saturday 14th May 2016 - 7.30pm.

The London Chorus will present a memorial concert for Douglas Jupp in aid of the Branch Dorchester Abbey. The programme will include Zadok the Priest and The King Shall Rejoice.

OPDC Discovery Participants Open Day 2016

We are holding a FREE open afternoon on the OPDC discovery project for those taking part in the project.

OPDC scientists and clinicians will talk about how our work is helping to improve the understanding of Parkinson’s disease and driving us closer to a cure. We will be filming this event and podcast talks will be available on the website, after the event.

Oxford Dementia Research Day 2015

Thursday, 16th July 2015 from 9:30am to 5pm, St John’s  College, Oxford

This event aimed at those working on Dementia research is jointly organised by OxDARE and the ARUK Oxford Network; we hope you will join us for a stimulating day of research talks and posters, with plenty of time for networking and discussion, including an evening drinks reception.
 
The landscape of dementia and ageing research has evolved apace in the UK generally, and in Oxford particularly, since the last Oxford Dementia Day in 2013, and this will be a great opportunity to hear about the latest developments.

Rutgers University Glee ClubWessex Men's choir

Wessex Male Choir and Rutgers University Men's Chorus Concert for Parkinson’s UK.

Saturday 23 May, 7pm. Church of St John the Evangelist, Iffley Road, Oxford

The concert is set to feature a varied programme of music from across several decades, in a set list that contains everything from classical favourites to swing and show tunes. With around 60 members, the award-winning Wessex Male Choir has built a reputation for its professionalism and entertaining repertoire, and is in great demand for concert engagements. The Rutgers University Men's Chorus is held in a similarly high regard. As one of the oldest men's choruses in the United States, the Chorus has performed on national and international stages, appearing in venues all over the world.Tickets are available now priced at £15 for adults, £12 concessions and £5 for students/under-18s and can be purchased via www.sje-oxford.org/events/tickets/buy-tickets/The funds raised from the concert will allow Parkinson’s UK to continue with its vital research work to find a cure, and improve the lives of the 127,000 people in the UK who are affected by Parkinson’s. Oxford Brain Bank Open Day

13 March 2015, Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences

OPDC researchers including Olaf Ansorge and Laura Parkkinnen will be taking part in Oxford Brain Bank's Open day this year on Friday March 13th. There will be two sessions 1-3pm or 4-6pm at the John Radcliffe Hospital. The sessions will involve talks by researchers and a lab tour to learn more about the work of the brain bank and a chance to look down the microscope at human brain samples.

International Brain Awareness Week

International Brain Awareness Week is a global campaign to increase public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research. There is a varied programme of events including the talk below from OPDC's Michele Hu. This year the week coincides with the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre Open Weeks.

This exciting free event (part of Brain Awareness week) is hosted by communications@ndcn.ox.ac.uk. It will feature four short talks and information stands about brain research at the University of Oxford and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust.  The speakers include OPDC's Michele Hu who will be talking about our work on Parkinson's.

Jazz concert with profits going to Parkinson's UK Oxford Branch.

Bands appearing: "Sax in the City", "Alone Together" and "The Eddie Condon Tribute Band". This is the fifth concert promoted by the Oxfordshire Jazz Federation and features top musicians from Oxfordshire and the surrounding area.
